Baldness surgery (Hair Replacement)

These pictures are showing a common medical procedure, the results obtained are not necessarily reproducible from one individual to the other.
The grafts success can be guaranteed 90% except for specific problems (scars, dermatologic skin disease). Nevertheless, in order to increase hair density, 2 to 3 sessions of 500 grafts performed every 6 month, might be necessary, and will give striking aesthetic results.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia with sedative supplement if necessary.
It depends on the number of grafts to be implanted, it will be between 2 to 3 hours for 500 grafts (1,000 hairs in average).
The patient can leave the hospital on the same day of the surgery, after a few check-up hours in most cases.
The potential post-anesthesia pain is minimal and does not last long (antalgics will be prescribed). Small scabs will appear in each area that was implanted and will remain for about a week, the grafted hair will fall with the scabs and grow again within 2 to 3 months, half an inch a month.
An edema or bruises can appear depending on the person.
·in the country where the surgery is performed
During your hospitalization the surgeon and his staff monitor to ensure there are no complications occurring. A few follow-up visits are also necessary during the required recovery period (usually about a week), they take place directly at your hotel.
·after you get back to your homeland
During your first week back home your surgeon may stay in close contact with you either by phone, mail or webcam. Your surgeon may also collaborate with your own doctor to ensure your recovery is normal.
You may resume normal activity 2 to 3 days after the surgery.
After three months, your surgeon monitors the first results to ensure they are satisfying. In some cases, you may require additional corrections or treatment.
Your surgeon will inform you of all the risks involved during your first discussions but also every time you will have a question. You will be then asked to sign a consent form which contains all the details of the whole surgery procedure.
Medical literature lists some of the following potential complications (apart from the ones directly linked to anesthesia):
- Hematomas: bleedings are rare and light
- Infection (rare): if any, antibiotics will be prescribed
- Temporary hair loss around the area implanted
- Epidermal cysts that will disappear on its own
Baldness surgery has improved significantly. Through the micro-graft procedure, it can address the main aesthetic hair loss problems encountered by men and women.
Choosing a qualified plastic surgeon ensures you that he/she has the required education, skill and experience to avoid these complications or to efficiently treat them when necessary.
